Bookbinding

My first diy tutorial!
Alright so I will be using a very simple Japanese bookbinding method. I say simple, but I kept messing up and redoing the project, but it was my first attempt at bookbinding.
Anyway.

Materials:
-cardboard or card stock (whatever you want the cover to be)
-paper
-pencil or marking utensil
-ruler
-scissors
-a nail (any size)
-small hammer
-thick thread
-a needle
-cutting board

Making the Thing:
1) make sure you have a clear work space.
2) cut the paper and cardboard so that you have 6 by 5 inch sheets.

3) take the cardboard and make a line half an inch from the left 6 inch side.
4) make four marks, each 1 inch apart.

5) place the cardboard on the cutting board.
6) gently tap the nail with the hammer on the marks. don't go crazy. just do it hard enough to poke holes in the cardboard.

7) place the cardboard on top of the pages you cut.
8) using the holes in the cardboard as a guide, tap the nail through all of the paper sheets.

9) now thread your needle.
10) take about half of the stack of paper and thread the needle through the second hole from the bottom.

11) leave some thread hanging from the side that will be sandwiched in between pages.

12) now thread the needle all the way through the second hole.

13) thread the third hole.

14) go through the third hole again.

15) thread the forth hole.

16) go back through the forth hole.

17) go through the forth hole again, but this time so that the thread is going perpendicular to the stitch in the previous step.

18) stitch through the third hole.

19) stitch through the second hole.

20) go through the first hole, and then do the same two stitches as you did in steps 16 and 17

21) thread through the second hole again, but this time come out in the middle of the book, where the thread is hanging.

22) tie the two ends together and off excess thread

aaaand...

Done!

Enjoy your book!
